Success stories of other entrepreneurs can help to drive you forward as an online course creator. We recently sat down with Freda Lombard, who shared the amazing story of how she registered 300 people for her acrylic painting membership. No matter what type of course creator you are, keep reading to discover her top tips for anyone looking to increase their sales this year.
Introducing Freda Lombard

Freda is the Owner and Founder at Zealous Art Online School. She provides easy, gentle, step-by-step painting courses for beginners. She has a Paint Night Membership which gives you Instant access to close to 100 (and growing) step-by-step painting videos you can do at your own pace at any time.
While acrylic paint might not be a topic that you are personally looking to create a course on, Freda is truly an inspiration to anyone looking to create and sell courses online. Freda previously had an art studio and taught art classes in her local community, welcoming anyone who wanted a fun night out and relaxing activity. Due to COVID-19, Freda’s business soon reduced, leaving her looking for a new way to market her services. Since this time, she has signed up a whopping 300 members to her acrylic painting membership, totaling over $100,000 in sales.
How to Sign Up Hundreds of Members for Your Online Course
For $19 Canadian a month, Freda’s members enjoy her high-quality and informative online course content, providing her with about $6,000 a month from this single income source. Even with COVID-19 dying down, Freda is still finding that her online business is thriving, even while she’s slowly going back into in-person events. Her online business is still growing month after month, and Freda noticed a massive increase in registrations again in the past month.
Facebook Live – A Tool to Quickly Gain Sign-Ups
Free events are a huge part of Freda’s success. She offers a weekly free paint night on her Facebook page, which led to 200 sign-ups almost overnight during the launch. Freda uses a Facebook business page, which had about 2,600 followers to begin with. These were contacts she’d met in the past, who were mostly local to her. However, Facebook is an amazing way to increase sales, and you can use this to spread the word about your courses.

She offers a weekly free paint night on her Facebook page, which led to 200 sign-ups almost overnight during the launch.
In order to gauge the best price point for her content as a course creator, Freda held a Facebook poll to find out how much people would be willing to pay for her services. She then offered a founding membership special, where clients only had to pay $10 a month for their subscription. Freda has two membership options, which help to provide options for everyone’s budget and needs. This is something we recommend many people look into when launching, as it can help to make your course more accessible to everyone. By connecting with your community and truly understanding what they are after, you can also tailor your offerings to fit their needs.
